Beth's Art Exhibit

MK Event Studio's own Beth Nagle is hosting a reception to mark the opening of her new art exhibit at the Bank of New Canaan on Wednesday, October 17 from 5:30-7:30. The exhibit is called "In a World," and was inspired by a piece of paper she found, on which a child had written the words: "In a World." The exhibit will be on display until December. So if you can't make the reception, stop by in the coming months to check it out! We are so proud of you, Beth!

We're On To Something

It seems that there is a new event trend emerging, and it's in the numbers.

Whether you're planning a children's birthday party, searching for a new idea for table numbers at a wedding, or looking for the perfect gift to bring to an event, numbers can provide fantastic inspiration to spice things up a bit.

Roman numerals have always been and always will be a classy statement. Even when they stand alone in a simple frame like this one, they can represent deep meaning and be terribly romantic. We love that this couple used roman numerals to represent the day they tied the knot. We also thought you could use this in a child's nursery with the day they were born. It makes for beautiful decor.

We find this table number idea absolutely adorable for a birthday or a wedding. It's a great conversation starter, especially if your guests at the table don't know each other well. Looking through old albums to find the perfect photo for each age could also be a hilarious rainy day activity.

Using wine bottles for table numbers are another fun way to engage guests.  At a bridal shower, for example, have guests play a trivia game about the bride and her beau.  Whoever wins gets to take home the bottle!

We loved these other fun ways to incorporate numbers into an event:

The Art of "Camping Chic"

As the summer days dwindle away along with the pennies in our pocketbook, it’s time for us to put away the i-Everythings (we know it's hard), and get some fresh air. We were in the office talking about new Labor Day getaway ideas, and stumbled upon this totally hilarious VW Bus Tent!

This got us thinking...could those of us who aren't totally in love with the outdoors have a newer, "chicer" way to camp?

The Glam Camping Company and others like it say yes! This is a new trend that's emerging, and people seem to be loving it. On the Glam Camping website, you can literally buy this mint green and red "strawberries and cream tent" and post up in your backyard (we also loved the idea of using this for a children's birthday party).  Take a look at some more of these outrageously fun tents from Boutique Homes.

More "camping chic" must haves include burgers, dogs (which will never get old) and s'more martinis! (1 oz. chocolate vodka, 1 oz. bailey’s Irish cream, 1 oz. cream de cacao, 1 oz. vanilla vodka, 2 oz. heavy cream, toasted marshmallows, crushed graham crackers and chocolate syrup). Nightcap anyone?

So, maybe you won't be camping out in a VW Bus Tent, but we hope this gives you inspiration and sheds some new light on the comforts of "camping chic." Camping doesn't have to mean hiking boots, mosquitos and sleeping on the cold ground. It can mean getting some fresh air comfortably...with a s'mores martini in hand.

"Fusion of Flavors" Kicks off!

Father Rich, Chef Palomino and the talented Cafe Alma students
Last night, MK Event Studio and members of the Rye, Port Chester and Greenwich community celebrated food, wine and the pledge to better our society. Co-Chair Ann Heekin was the gracious hostess for the evening. The cultivation party took place to promote the 2nd Annual "Fusion of Flavors" event. "Fusion of Flavor's" goal is to raise money for the Don Bosco Community Center in Port Chester, NY, specifically to fund its new culinary institute- Cafe Alma. The program is for both teens and adults and seeks to educate and inspire students on careers in the culinary arts.
The party took place on the large front porch. What a beautiful home!

We love our funky lime colored save the dates.
Throughout the evening, students from Cafe Alma presented passed hors d'oeuvres crafted by Chef Rafael Palomino. Palomino's restaurants Sonora and Greenwich Tavern will both be featured at Fusion of Flavors, along with about eight other featured restaurants from the greater Port Chester area. Guests were able to take home Palomino's Latin Grill: Sultry and Simple Food for Red-Hot Dinners and Parties. Father Richard Alejunas gave a spectacular speech about the new culinary program and Don Bosco's mission to serve the young and the poor. Guests loved hanging out on Ann's large front porch. Her classic victorian home was spectacular, and was the perfect place to host a party. Make sure to keep a look out for more "Fusion of Flavors" info coming soon!
